INDEPENDENCE, Ohio—SIFCO Applied Surface Concepts (SIFCO ASC), a division of SIFCO Industries, Inc., recently announced that Reed Kimbell has joined the SIFCO team in the newly created position of production manager. SIFCO ASC provides selective plating of metal parts for surface enhancement, resizing, and repair.

In this new role, Kimbell will be responsible for all contract plating operations, as well as the production of plating solutions that SIFCO uses in its operations and sells to its customers. Kimbell brings over 20 years of manufacturing production experience to SIFCO, having most recently served with Goodyear Tire and Rubber and GOJO Industries in production management roles. He has a B.A. in business management from Auburn University.

Although the plating industry is new to Kimbell, his demonstrated success in very diverse manufacturing environments is expected to provide SIFCO with the leadership it needs to continue improvements and better service customers. “What impressed us was Reed’s vast experience with some very successful companies in several different industries,” said SIFCO North America Operations Manager Chic Allen. “He fits well within our environment of continuous improvement in our solutions manufacturing and plating services areas.”

“My immediate job is to learn the plating industry by observing our operations and getting closer to some of our customers,” said Kimbell. “I already see ways to streamline our manufacturing process while improving quality. I’m glad to be joining the leader in selective plating during this time when the company is growing sales and bringing more value to our customers.”

SIFCO Applied Surface Concepts (www.sifcoasc.com) says that it provides “practical, cost-effective solutions for surface enhancement to improve part performance and reduce manufacturing costs through corrosion protection, increased wear resistance, increased hardness, improved conductivity, anti-galling or slip.” The company’s surface enhancement technologies and services have been utilized for over 50 years on OEM components and on parts requiring refurbishment. SIFCO Applied Surface Concepts offers on-site and job-shop services.
