LAPALMA, Calif.—A new non-silver antimicrobial technology from Lotte Advanced Materials is reported to offer “built-in-the-polymer” protection against infection-causing pathogens that cause healthcare associated infections (HAI). Lotte Advanced Materials (www.lotteadms.com), a global developer of advanced polymer materials, is introducing the new technology, Evermoin™, in its ABS, PP, and PC products.

The Evermoin technology, reported to exhibit fast acting protection against the spread of pathogens and fungal growth,  has been tested to inhibit 99.9+ (3 log+) growth rate of positive and negative pathogens, including Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Possible medical applications include medical housings, equipment, and accessories.

While the Evermoin technology is an effective HAI fighter in the healthcare industry, it can also be used in non-medical applications to protect against bacterial and fungal growth in applications where cleanliness and safety are important. These include cosmetics, electrical and electronics, appliances, and kitchenware. It is reported to provide excellent weatherability and UV resistance for applications where outdoor exposure may be a factor.

The Evermoin technology is non-toxic and compliant with ISO 10993-5 and ISO 10993-10 standards. It has been approved by the U.S. FDA (US FDA 21 CFR 181.32) and has also been approved for environmental compatibility by the EPA.
