GKN Aerospace will design and develop the electrical wiring interconnection systems and empennage for the AS2
RENO, Nev.—GKN Aerospace, selected as a supplier on the Aerion AS2 supersonic business jet, will design the empennage and the electrical wiring and interconnection systems (EWIS) for the AS2, according to a release from Aerion Supersonic. Aerion said design activities have already started on-site at its facility in Reno, Nevada, and in GKN Aerospace’s engineering centers in the Netherlands and Romania.

Aerion’s AS2 is reported to be the first-ever privately built supersonic commercial aircraft. The 12-passenger business jet is scheduled to begin flight testing in 2024.

The company entered into a partnership with Boeing in February 2019 to develop the AS2 and advance the supersonic market. In October of the previous year, Aerion and GE Aviation unveiled what is reported to be the first civil supersonic engine in more than 50 years—the GE AffinityTM engine.
