WALTHAM, Mass.—Plataine Inc., reported that it was granted a United States Patent (#10310492B2) titled “Multi-dimensional resource optimization in the manufacture of three-dimensional elements.” The new patent presents a digital method for production floor optimization and efficiency. According to a release from Plataine, the digital method is intended for use by manufacturers that produce three-dimensional (3D) products by cutting a 3D block of material.

The company’s software is said to provide intelligent, connected Digital Assistants for production floor management and staff, empowering manufacturers to make optimized decisions in real-time, every time.
For companies that are manufacturing 3D elements, it’s a complex task to digitize and optimize their decision-making workflow: The variously shaped pieces may, theoretically, be placed in any three-dimensional orientation imaginable. But Plataine said that its new patent leads to higher material utilization, increased throughput, and reduced operational costs. The digital method enables automated optimization of resources used in the manufacturing of three-dimensional elements, including odd shapes and remnants. According to Plataine, it does so by generating an automated production plan that concurrently accounts for the range of available resources and makes optimal use of them based on the manufacturers’ goals and constraints.
