HOUSTON, Texas—Material & Design Solutions (MDS), a provider of high-performance components for sealing applications in high temperature, high pressure, and corrosive environments, recently acquired the assets of APS Plastics and Manufacturing, of Tomball, Texas. The purchase price was not disclosed, MDS said in a press release.

APS Plastics is a full-service manufacturer of custom plastic, metal, and composite components. The company applies its engineering capabilities to the manufacturing of complex, precision-machined parts for the oil and gas, aerospace, medical, food processing, and electronics industries. The privately-held company has been in business for 15 years, and has 10 employees, according to the release.

Material & Design Solutions said in the release that it acquired the assets of APS for the company’s extensive machining capabilities. Those assets include six CNC lathes and five CNC mills, which MDS will use to machine Pektron™ PEEK, Texron PTFE, and other thermoplastics into finished components.

Material & Design Solutions provides high-performance molded and machined thermoplastic components, with advanced sealing, from materials such as Pektron PEEK, Texron PTFE, polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), Torlon® PAI, Vespel® PI, and other thermoplastic polymers. The components are used in critical services applications in the oil and gas and semiconductors markets. The company also provides Petroz™ FFKM, FKM, and TFE/P elastomer seals, and electrical connectors.

“MDS can now go from resin to finished components with the ability to perform turning and complex milling operations, allowing MDS to be even more competitive with pricing and shorter lead times on finished parts,” said MDS Machining Center General Manager Matt Jorgensen, in the release.

Torlon is a registered trademark of Solvay Specialty Polymers

Vespel is a registered trademark of DuPont de Nemours, Inc.
