The new couplings from SDP/SI are constructed of an anodized aluminum hub and spacer with a stainless-steel disk and collar

HICKSVILLE, N.Y.—Stock Drive Products/Sterling Instrument (SDP/SI) has expanded its  selection of flexible couplings to include the single disk type couplings (short type), series S50XHSM, and the double disk type couplings (standard length type), series S50XHWM, the company said in a release.

The disk-type flexible couplings are said to be an economical option while providing greater torque capability and improved performance in a reduced size. Their compact design provides torque ratings of 0.6 up to 12 Nm, an improvement over similar products, according to SDP/SI.

The single disk type flexible couplings, S50XHSM, feature lengths from 16.5mm through 32.8 mm; diameters from 15mm through 39mm; bore diameter combinations of 3mm through 12mm, and weights of 6.8 grams through 84 grams, the company said.

The S50XHWM double disk type couplings are reported to feature lengths of 22.4mm through 46.6 mm; diameters from 15mm through 39 mm diameters; bore diameter combinations of 3mm through 12mm; and weights of 9.4 grams through 123 grams. Other bore combinations and bore sizes are available on special order to accommodate end-user requirements, the company said.

The disk-type couplings are constructed of an anodized aluminum hub and spacer with a stainless-steel disk and collar. The stainless-steel disk is said to permit eccentricity, angular alignment, and end play.

According to SDP/SI, device manufacturers can benefit from the smaller size and reduced weight while gaining greater torque capacity and power. As a high-performance motion control coupling, disk-type couplings are well suited for applications where precise position accuracy is required. They offer flexible design, zero backlash, high torque capacity, and ability to accommodate shaft misalignment. As a result, they are said to be ideal for use with servo motors as an integral machine part in a variety of equipment where high-precision XY stages and index tables are used, such as welding machines, 3D printers, and high-precision CNC equipment.

Stock Drive Products/Sterling Instrument (SDP/SI), a Designatronics company, focuses on the design and manufacture of precision gears, high-performing mechanical components, and customized components for motion control and small power transmission applications. The company was established in 1950 as a comprehensive source for small mechanical and electromechanical components. Today, it manufactures and assembles components at its ISO 9001 and AS9100 certified facility in Hicksville.
