At the same time, Deloitte named Markforged one of its “2018 Technology Fast 500” winners. At number 10 on the list, Markforged had a 3-year median growth rate of 12,687 percent, the award said. “3D printing allows for rapid iteration, so you can test out many different designs early and often to refine your models,” Markforged wrote in, “3D Printing with Composites,” its design guide. “3D printing is often appropriate for low- to mid-volume applications. Compare cost-per-quantity to discover this tipping point.”

The Metal X unit launched at the January 2017 CES show with 17-4 PH stainless steel. The beta materials today include tool steel, titanium, Inconel, copper and aluminum. “The Metal X is the world’s first Atomic Diffusion Additive Manufacturing (ADAM) machine,” Markforged wrote on its printer specifications for the Metal X machine. “It’s up to 10x (times) less expensive than alternative metal additive manufacturing technologies – and up to 100x (times) less than traditional fabrication technologies like machining or casting.”
