Gemstar recently attained CMMC Level 2 self-certification

CANNON FALLS, Minn.—Gemstar Manufacturing recently achieved a significant milestone in its commitment to cybersecurity excellence. Gemstar reported that as of December 29, 2023, it had successfully completed the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Level 2 Self-Certification, marking a pivotal step in fortifying the company’s security.

The certification reflects Gemstar’s proactive approach to ensuring the safety of its business operations and safeguarding proprietary information received from valued customers, the company said in a release.

“Empowered by dedication and resilience, Gemstar proudly stands at the pinnacle of cybersecurity excellence, achieving Level 2 CMMC self-certification—a testament to our unwavering commitment to advancing our cybersecurity posture and protecting sensitive information from cyber threats,” said Chase Williams, Gemstar’s security and compliance manager, in a statement.

Gemstar Manufacturing is a custom manufacturer of highly engineered hard cases and OEM parts. The company leverages multiple manufacturing technologies, including traditional rotational molding and thermoforming. Gemstar also uses a proprietary, robotic rotational molding technology called Robomold®, which enables it to “reach outside the constraints of traditional plastics manufacturing,” the company said in an emailed response to Design-2-Part.

Gemstar said it recognizes the ongoing commitment required to maintain its certification. Although the  expected mandate for certification is projected to be 1-2 years away, Gemstar proactively achieved CMMC Level 2 Self-Certification, positioning itself ahead of industry requirements.

Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification 2.0 is a U.S. Department of Defense program designed to strengthen cybersecurity in the Defense Industrial Base. By implementing tiered cybersecurity standards, the program ensures protection of sensitive information and enhances accountability among contractors. It streamlines requirements, lowers assessment costs, and fosters collaboration while aligning with recognized standards of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), according to the release.

Gemstar said CMMC certification provides a rigorous framework that shields the company from potential cyber threats, hacks, and breaches while increasing partners’ and stakeholders’ trust in its commitment to cybersecurity. The program offers a standardized method to assess and manage cybersecurity risk, reducing potential liabilities associated with cyber threats. It is also said to simplify compliance by providing a single, unified standard for Gemstar and its partners.
