The company’s new facility in California aims to strengthen the U.S. supply chain for infrared hardware.
MALIBU, Calif.—A new advanced research and manufacturing facility recently opened by HRL Laboratories, LLC in Camarillo marks “a significant milestone in the company’s commitment to innovation in infrared (IR) hardware,” the company said in a release.
According to HRL, the 60,000-square-foot facility houses state-of-the-art labs, cleanrooms, and high-bay and office space, dramatically enhancing HRL’s fabrication and in-house testing capabilities. The expansion is said to strengthen HRL’s position as a key player in space-grade IR technology and support the U.S. Government’s need for a more resilient supply chain.
“This facility represents a major leap forward for HRL,” said HRL Vision Systems Laboratory Manager Raphael Ricardo, in the release. “By consolidating design, fabrication, and testing under one roof, we’re streamlining development, improving efficiency, and reinforcing our commitment to excellence in delivering IR hardware.”
Designed from the ground up to support long-term growth, the Camarillo site was master-planned to meet the evolving needs of the industry. By integrating processes in a controlled environment, HRL remains focused on accelerating developments while ensuring compliance with AS9100 standards, the company said.
According to HRL, it will transition its Molecular Beam Epitaxy technology from Malibu to Camarillo in the coming years, further centralizing operations and facilitating advancements in semiconductor research.
With this investment, HRL Laboratories said it “continues to set the standard for next-generation IR hardware, ensuring technological leadership for years to come.”
