The single- and dual-axis actuators from ESI Motion are engineered to survive launch stresses and space operations, the company said.
SIMI VALLEY, Calif.—A commercial-off-the-shelf SADA actuator from ESI Motion is engineered to meet the demanding requirements of space, delivering excellent performance and dependability, according to a release from Solaris.
ESI Motion, a designer and manufacturer of advanced space and defense controller subsystems, said the solar-array drive assembly (SADA) actuator is available in both single- and dual-axis configurations. Engineering development units are available within four to six weeks, and Flight Units, within 16 to 20 weeks, the company said in the release.
Solaris is said to provide superior precision and reliability, making it well-suited for space-grade applications. With a lightweight and compact design, the actuators are optimized for spacecraft where weight and space are crucial factors. They also offer shock and vibration resistance, as they are engineered to survive launch stresses and space operations.
Built for extended missions with minimal maintenance requirements, the actuators incorporate fail-safe mechanisms to enhance mission reliability. Versatile in their applications, they can be used in satellite positioning, solar array deployment, robotic arms, and scientific instruments, the release stated.
“The SADA actuators represent a significant advancement for the industry, providing a much-needed option for a high-performance, space-rated actuator with a short lead time,” said Earnie Beem, president and chief technology officer of ESI Motion, in the release. “Our actuators can be in an engineer’s hands in a matter of weeks, with space-ready units in 16-20 weeks or less.”
Both single and dual-axis Solaris actuators can be customized to meet specific project requirements, the company said.
ESI Motion specializes in cutting-edge subsystem technology for mission-critical applications in extreme environments. The company designs and manufactures rugged, high-performance, off-the-shelf, modified, and fully customizable motor control, actuator, and power conversion products for space and defense applications.
