The purpose-built module is reported to deliver 1080p imaging, on-board AI analytics, and 4G/GPS connectivity—bringing high-level visibility to electric boating.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia—ACEL Power, a manufacturer of intelligent electric marine propulsion systems, recently introduced a compact, high-definition camera engineered specifically for its next-generation Intelligent Electric Series.

The camera, built for challenging marine environments, is reported to be the only factory-integrated camera available on any electric outboard platform. It is said to offer boaters and commercial operators real-time visual, diagnostic, and security data without the need for aftermarket systems.

“Skippers deserve better visibility and safer tools without adding complexity,” said Anthony Liu, CEO of ACEL Power, in a company release. “By embedding smart imaging directly into our electric outboards, we’re giving users peace of mind—on the water and at the dock.”

ACEL Power, headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, is a pioneering manufacturer of electric outboard propulsion systems. The company is committed to shaping a sustainable future through the creation of a smart electric ecosystem.

“Leveraging patented technology and integrated software, ACEL Power is driving change towards a cleaner, more efficient boating experience,” the release stated.

Key features of the ACEL camera are reported to include true low-light performance and razor-sharp imaging. A Sony 1/2.8-inch 2 MP CMOS sensor delivers full-color images at just 0.05 lux (0.01 lux B/W) and records 1080p video at 30 fps. In addition, 2D/3D noise reduction, digital WDR (> 90 dB), and advanced image enhancement keep visuals crisp through glare, spray, and dusk, ACEL said in the release.

The marine camera also offers AI on the edge and “ultra-efficient streaming.” Built-in analytics enable motion, intrusion, and face recognition, as well as privacy masking, without the need for external sensors. At the same time, H.265+ compression minimizes data load, with SD storage supporting up to 256 GB of local loop recording, the company said.

Another feature of the camera: It is always connected. Dual-mode Wi-Fi, optional 4G CAT 4 modem, and GPS/BeiDou are reported to enable remote monitoring, geotagged alerts, and browser-based live support. No plug-ins are required. It also offers a marine-ready form factor: Measuring just 38mm × 38mm, the unit draws as little as 1.2 W and is encased in a vibration-damped, IP-rated housing, purpose-built by ACEL to withstand saltwater exposure, the release stated.

“This isn’t just about adding a camera—it’s about merging vision, diagnostics, and data into one intelligent system,” said Natasha Chawla, vice president of sales and marketing at ACEL Power, in the release. “By integrating smart analytics and connectivity directly into the propulsion unit, we’re taking a meaningful step toward safer, more proactive boating.”

The integrated camera module will ship standard on ACEL’s IE50 IE75, IE150, and IE250 electric outboards series, available now. The module is not available for inboard systems, according to ACEL.
