Taiga Motors’ vertical integration brings advanced engineering and automated production under one roof, according to the company’s chief of engineering.

MONTREAL—Taiga Motors Inc. reported that it restarted its manufacturing operations and began deliveries of its new 2025 Orca watercraft. The new model incorporates innovations that include “major advances in battery performance and charging time,” the company said in a release.

The launch of vehicle assembly and automated battery production lines, according to schedule, is said to mark a significant step forward for Taiga Motors.

“This relaunch allows for the first deliveries of the new Orca 2025 and demonstrates the strengthening of Taiga’s activities in the Canadian electric vehicle industry,” the release stated. “It is part of a new global alliance in marine electrification, alongside leading players such as Vita, Evoy, and Aqua Superpower.”

Taiga said it plans to continue ramping up production at its advanced manufacturing facility in Montreal, which offers production capacity of up to 8,000 units per year. This will make it possible for Taiga to deliver what it called “state-of-the-art electric powertrains” to boat manufacturers across the globe, in addition to Taiga vehicles. The company also plans to begin production of new electric snowmobiles in the fall of 2025 to meet growing international demand.

“This expansion will help create jobs and strengthen Quebec and Canada’s technological leadership in the electric vehicle sector,” the release stated.

“Restarting production in such a short time is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our team and the support of great partners,” said Matthew Taylor, vice president of operations at Taiga Motors, in the release. “We have leveraged several years of learning to build an advanced,  vertically integrated manufacturing system right here in Canada. The entire Taiga team is proud to continue to manufacture the only personal watercraft still produced in the country.”

Taiga aims to continue pushing the boundaries of the fundamental technologies needed to produce competitively priced, performance electric vehicles. The goal is to accelerate the electrification of marine and powersports vehicles.

New cooling technology, the result of years of advanced engineering and rigorous iterations, relies on optimized coolant circulation around the lithium-ion cells. It is said to allow for improved heat transfer and temperature uniformity, resulting in up to a 65 percent increase in continuous battery power in hot marine conditions. Combined with recent software updates, the advancement is reported to double DC charging speeds and reduce “fast charging times to less than 30 minutes.”

“The rapid introduction of new battery technologies is possible by Taiga’s vertical integration, which brings together advanced engineering and automated production under one roof,” said Taiga Motors Chief of Engineering Paul Achard, in the release. “We look forward to applying  this breakthrough to the production of our next snowmobiles and future powertrain products.”

Taiga describes itself as “a Canadian company leading electrification beyond the roads with revolutionary powertrain technology, powersports vehicles, and electric watercraft.”

“Through a vertically integrated approach, Taiga pushes the boundaries of electric technology to deliver extreme performance at competitive prices, facilitating the transition from internal combustion vehicles to electric.”

The company’s current lineup includes electric snowmobiles and personal watercraft. According to Taiga, they meet a growing demand, on both the recreational and commercial side, “to explore nature without compromise.”
