FARO Technologies’ coordinate measuring machine combines precision 3D inspection and rapid measurement for compact applications.
LAKE MARY, Fla.—Small parts and assemblies can pose significant measurement and inspection challenges for many manufacturers, especially when fast turnarounds are required. To address these challenges, FARO® Technologies, Inc. offers a portable measurement arm designed for precision 3D inspection and rapid measurement of small parts, molds, and assemblies.
FARO, a global provider of 3D measurement and imaging technologies, describes its Gage Max FaroArm® as the company’s “most accurate and affordable portable measurement arm.”
“The Gage Max FaroArm enables manufacturers to meet the highest quality and productivity demands with speed, confidence, and ease,” the company said in a release.
The Gage Max FaroArm coordinate measuring machine (CMM) is reported to offer a working volume of 1.5m (4.9feet), excellent accessibility for compact tasks, and multi-probe capability. Its kinematic quick-release probes with automatic recognition are said to eliminate the need for recalibration, enabling users to switch between probe sizes and lengths effortlessly. Operators are also said to benefit from FARO’s patented internal counterbalancing technology, enabling fatigue-free, single-handed operation and ergonomic control with a comfortable handle and intuitive two-button design.
Compliant with rigorous ISO 10360-12 accuracy standards, the Gage Max achieves maximum permissible volumetric errors as low as 0.022mm (0.0009 in) and sphere probing size errors down to 0.007mm (0.0003 in), the company said in the release.
“Equipped with temperature and overload sensors, the device actively maintains optimal performance and accuracy, even under challenging shop floor conditions,” the release stated. “Its universal quick-mount design allows flexible setup anywhere it’s needed, including magnetic mounts, vacuum mounts, and tripods, while optional dual battery and wireless operation ensure ultimate portability and continuous use.”
According to FARO Technologies, the Gage Max seamlessly integrates with FARO CAM2® inspection software and compatible third-party solutions, and empowers operators to perform dimensional verification and trend analysis across a broad spectrum of industrial applications. It expedites first-article and in-process inspection, swiftly identifies deviations from nominal CAD data, and reduces inspection bottlenecks to accelerate throughput and revenue generation. Machine shops and production lines can inspect parts directly on the machine, minimizing rework and scrap while maximizing yield and operational efficiency, the company said.
“At its core, the Gage Max is designed for both the precision of laboratory instruments and the ruggedness required on the shop floor,” the release stated. “The result is a portable CMM that sets up in seconds, streamlines workflows, and consistently delivers reliable, report-ready measurement data.”
