The company is investing in a national network of advanced 5-axis CNC machine shops that meet the highest industry standards.

DETROIT—Sharrow Engineering, inventor of the Sharrow™ Propeller, is planning to build a nationwide 5-axis CNC manufacturing network to support its expanding operations across its recreational division, Sharrow Marine, and its new affiliate, Sharrow Labs. The strategy aims to scale production efficiently by tapping into the strength and capabilities of the existing domestic industrial base, the company said in a release.

Sharrow Engineering is a Detroit-based company focused on developing breakthrough technologies in propulsion, energy, and mobility. The company holds more than 150 patents worldwide and is the parent company of Sharrow Marine, which manufactures and delivers high-performance marine propulsion systems to customers around the globe.

The Sharrow™ Propeller is reported to deliver up to 30 percent greater fuel efficiency and up to 80 percent noise reduction versus traditional designs. The widely recognized propeller was named one of TIME’s Best Inventions of 2023, in addition to being honored by Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas Awards and Innovation by Design Awards, according to the release.

As demand for the Sharrow Propeller grows rapidly across recreational, commercial, and government sectors, Sharrow is investing in a national network of advanced 5-axis CNC machine shops that meet the highest industry standards. Such standards include ISO 9001:2000 for quality management, AS9100 for aerospace manufacturing, and ITAR registration for defense-related production, the company said in the release.

According to Sharrow, its initiative leverages “the existing talent, capacity, and infrastructure of the U.S. manufacturing base to scale production and support future innovation.”

“We’re proud to be expanding our footprint in Detroit while also building a national manufacturing backbone that supports American jobs,” said Greg Sharrow, founder and CEO of Sharrow Engineering, in a statement. “By creating a flexible and scalable production network, we can meet the demand for Sharrow Propellers today, and support the manufacturing of future technologies coming out of Sharrow Labs tomorrow.”

Sharrow Engineering’s new manufacturing network will support multiple divisions, including Sharrow Marine, which specializes in recreational and commercial marine applications. It will also support Sharrow Labs, a newly launched innovation affiliate focused on developing breakthrough technologies in mobility, energy, and transportation. The network is said to also strengthen Sharrow Engineering’s capabilities in delivering high-precision solutions for government and defense partners.

The company is also relocating its headquarters to Michigan Central, Detroit’s emerging global center for mobility innovation. From this new base, Sharrow Engineering will coordinate R&D, IP management, and advanced manufacturing efforts across its business units, the company said.

The release stated that CNC shops interested in joining the Sharrow Manufacturing Network or learning more about partnership requirements can contact the company at info@SharrowEngineering.com.
