The maker of advanced genset enclosures said it will bring about 300 jobs to Charlotte.

CHARLOTTE, N.C.—AVL Manufacturing, Inc., a Canada-based designer and fabricator of power generation and storage enclosures, recently chose Charlotte as the company’s first U.S. manufacturing location. The planned 232,000-square-foot facility is scheduled to open for business in September 2025 and is expected to add approximately 300 new jobs to the area, the company stated in a release.

According to AVL, the existing warehouse will be outfitted to support the company’s complex fabrications for generator set (genset) enclosures. These specialized enclosures meet stringent requirements to contain a genset, protecting it from the elements, dust, and other environmental factors.

Genset enclosures are part of an important and growing market segment in North America. Why? Because the rapid growth of artificial intelligence and its intensive energy consumption are driving the need for more data centers, which rely on genset enclosures for backup power, the company said.

“After considering many markets, we are thrilled that AVL’s entrance into the U.S. market is in Charlotte, a vibrant, tech-forward city perfect for us to lay down roots,” said AVL President Vince DiCristofaro, in the release. “We didn’t just choose a location; we chose a community. Charlotte’s spirit of collaboration and its talented workforce made it the clear choice for our American-based home. We are excited to tap into this talent pool as we establish our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and create meaningful careers for the residents of this city, and deliver unparalleled products to our customers.”

“North Carolina’s reputation for advanced manufacturing continues to attract great companies like AVL Manufacturing to our state,” said Governor Josh Stein, in the release. “With the largest manufacturing workforce in the southeast and excellent community colleges, North Carolina is home to the resources that world-class companies depend on.”

Hiring for the AVL plant is expected to begin in June, led by Arrow Workforce Solutions.
