DETROIT—Finland-based electronics manufacturing services (EMS) company Scanfil operates 11 production facilities—including an electronics and system integration plant in Atlanta—across four continents. But in June, the company announced it is enhancing its offerings and geographical reach in the United States with its acquisition of 80 percent of Michigan-based EMS company ADCO Circuits Inc.
ADCO, based in the Greater Detroit metropolitan area, is reported to bring substantial expertise in electronics and box build manufacturing to Scanfil, with a strong presence in industrial and aerospace and defense markets. Its focus on complex assemblies is said to align “perfectly” with Scanfil’s offering.
“We are thrilled to welcome ADCO and Marc (ADCO President Marc Damman) to the Scanfil family,” said Scanfil CEO Christophe Sut, in a company release. “This acquisition allows us to expand our footprint in the USA significantly. Combined with our investments in the Atlanta plant’s electronics manufacturing capabilities, we can more than double our turnover in the USA.”
ADCO Circuits, established in 1981 in Rochester Hills, Michigan, is ISO 9001, AS9100D, and IATF16949 certified, and compliant to ISO 13485. The company provides electronic design and circuit board assembly services to a wide range of companies in the industrial, medical, automotive, telecommunications, and aerospace/military equipment markets. As a full-service turnkey supplier of custom electronics, ADCO offers support from design and prototyping to new product introduction (NPI) and full-rate production.
ADCO’s innovative ADCOproto web based platform is said to deliver fast prototypes to support engineers’ development work, and is expected to significantly enhance Scanfil’s service offerings to existing and new customers. In addition, automated inventory management, along with advanced production and test systems, make ADCO “an ideal partner for demanding customers,” according to Scanfil.
“ADCO brings two generations of expertise, long-standing customer relationships, skilled employees, and modern manufacturing technology, which will create tremendous synergies with Atlanta operations,” said Sut.
The closing of the acquisition is subject to regulatory approval in the USA, which is expected to be granted in the third quarter of 2025, the release stated.
“ADCO is excited to enter a new, long-term phase of growth that partnering with Scanfil allows,” said ADCO President Marc Damman, in the release. “We share the same values, and together, ADCO is better positioned to seize market opportunities. Customers and employees can expect business as usual, but with additional capabilities and growth opportunities.”
With global supply capabilities, Scanfil serves customers in the industrial, energy and cleantech, and medtech and life sciences markets. Its services include design, prototype manufacture, design for manufacturability (DFM), test development, supply chain and logistics services, and circuit board assembly, and the manufacture of subsystems and components. Scanfil also provides complex systems integration services, the company said in the release.
